Online Businesses In New York Would Need To Collect Taxes

People in New York, beware while shopping from online stores! You would be taxed while shopping henceforth, from online stores whether or not they are based in New York! This is effective with the new budget of the empire state.

Companies like Amazon, Overstock have been trying to get off this additional burden for their customers, but have not been successful. These online retailers have been asked to collect taxes from people of New York, who make purchases through their sites, if they opt to maintain direct or indirect affiliations with New York based entities. Overstock is reported to have announced that it wishes to snap all ties with New York based websites and also have filed a suit with the New York State Supreme Court, against New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, New York tax commissioner Robert Menga, and the state governor.
